BIG MAJORITGES
The trend of political opinion in New Zealand since the days of Seddon is reflected in the records of party strength in Parliament sine*; 1893, as set out in the table below, states the "Aukland Star." The outstanding features of the political party history thus disclosed are the long succession of large majorities whicli Mil-. Seddon enjoyed as long as there were only two parties in the field, the unsafe position of Mr. Massey except between 1919 and 1922, and the sweeping majorities secured by Mr. Coatei; in 1925 and by the Coalition in 1931. To these must now be added the most lremarkable swing of all—the rise by Labour from 24 seats to 53 in Wednesday's poll. The record of these changes .is as follows:—
