ST. SIMON'S STOUT BLOOD
Students of breeding should find much to interest them in connection with the Cesarewitch and the success of the St. Simon strain in this supreme test of stamina. Ten Cesarewitch winners since 1911 have come from sires of ,the St. Simon line, apart from several recent winners that carried additional or-other strains of this famous horse. !
This year's winner, Near Relation, while not got by-a sire on the St. Simon male line, is out of a mare whose sire was of St. Simon origin. He is by Son-in-Law, recognised .as premier sire at present in England from the viewpoint of transmitting stamina, and his dam (Youyou) was by Simon Square, a son of St. Simon. The French horse Nightcap 111, who was only a head away second, was also out of a mare of St. Simon blood. Last year's winner, Enfield, had four lines of St. Simon, including direct tail-female descent from a mare who was by St. Simon's great son Persimmon.
