WORSER BAY CLUB
A SILVER JUBILEE t
Though the sky was overcast, the weather was reasonably fine for the opening of the silver jubilee season of the Worser Bay Amateur Swimming and Life-saving Club on Saturday afternoon. A large number of friends and supporters of the club and of members of kindred clubs was present.
Mr. W. H. Gerrie, president of the club, briefly sketched the history of the club over the past 25 years. He appealed to members and to the citizens of the district to give the organisation all their support. Mr. R. Semple, M.P., who officially declared the season open, heartily congratulated the club on reaching its jubilee year, and on the standard and fitness of its members. A short programme of events was then held.
The results were as follows:— 50yds Club Race.—A. Hepburn, 1; G. Bell. 2: J. Newport, 3. 50yds Inter-club Handicap.—J. deland (Petone). l; C. Jones (Worser Bay), 2; G. Bel] (Worser Bay), 3. Beach Relay.—V. L. Allan, T. Mercer, G. Bell, and T. Rowell, 1. A team from the Worser Bay Club gave a demonstration of life-saving. Afternoon tea was afterwards served.
