AUSTRALIAN TOUR

WESTERN PROVINCES MATCH

CAPE TOWN. November 30.

The Australian cricketers commenced a match against Western Provinces today. Western Provinces batted first. Fleetwood-Smith extracted the maximum assistance from a slow wicket and the crowd were greatly amused lat the batsmen's efforts to keep the ball ( away from the wicket. FleetwoodSmith appeared to turn more viciously I than Grimmett, sometimes pitching the ball fully two feet outside the wickets, the ball coming in sharply. Georgeu displayed plenty of aggressiveness and neat footwork, scoring all round the wicket with refreshing ease till he failed properly to get hold of a ball from Fleetwood-Smith. /

Western Province's innings lasted 194 minutes. The Australian fielding was greatly improved.

Brown played a delightful knock. He was always accurate and aggressive, but ultimately was enticed to hit out at a curling ball from Robertson. He leaped far out, but failed to connect.

Bowling.—McCormick took one wicket for 29 runs; Sievers, none for 9; Fleetwood-Smith, seven for 71; Grimm'ett, two for 47.
