DIFFICULT WINTER AHEAD

(Received December 2, 2.50 p.m.) LONDON, December 1. "The Times" Warsaw correspondent says that the Government has decreed an emergency tax, graduated up to 25 per cent, on the salaries of all State employees. It is expected to yield £6,000,000, thus covering half the present Budget deficit. The War Department is allocated £30,000,000 of a total revenue of £86,000,000 for the year commencing April 1 next. While.tha Government is determined to adhere to an unfettered gold standard and balance the Budget, the position is critical, and it will be Poland's most difficult winter since the depressioa began.
