Important developments yesterdayindicated an early extension of the shipping dispute. A further effort to obtain a crew for the Mangola failed, and thereafter the crew of the inter-Stale steamer Manoora, which was listed to sail tomorrow for Fremantle, gave' 24 hours 1, notice. Ten members of die crew of the Wanganella, due to sail for Auckland tomorrow, and one each of the freighters Duntroon and Macedon, gave notice. The Wanganella has 250 passengers. It is regarded as unlikely ; that any action will be taken td hold up ships for Melbourne in port until after the seamen's meeting there next Tuesday. PASSENGERS BY STRAXHNAVER. The Commonwealth Navigation Department will probably grant permission for the overseas liner Strathhaver to carry theManoora's inter-State passengers. This will involve a special dispensation under the Navigation Act, which disallows oversea liners to compete with inter-State passenger: vessels. The Strathnaver sails for London this evening. It is understood that this arrangement has angered the seamen. The Union Company's freighter. Talune, which arrived from Newcastle yesterday and which was to have sailed for Hobart at midnight, is tied up, as members of the crew stated that they would not offer tor reengagement until they had consulted the union. : The Newcastle branch of the Seamen's Union has decided not to work under the new Federal award. The "Sydney Morning Herald" says it is now regarded as certain that the men will strike on every vessel arriving at Sydney over the weekend.
