SOCIAL EVENING

(From "The Post's" Representative.)

An "At Home" was given by Dr. and Mrs. .Butchers, Wilford Street, when Miss Joan Butchers was hostess and entertained her guests with games and competitions. A delicious supper was provided;: and roses decorated the tables. Those present were Masses Betty Unity, and Mary Jones,' Thora Stace, Molly Hurst, Vera Burns, Babe Thompson, Marjorie Billy, and Hazel Barton; Messrs. Bob Carstens, Dick - Jones, Bruff Jarman, Rolf Lamberg, Ron Millard, Bill Mirams, Jack Drysdale, Rudd Dickens,1, Ted Thompson, and Douglas Moginie. Repertory Society.- . There was a large and keenlyinterested audience at. St James's Hall, Woburn Road, when the Wellington Repertory Society/ gave two one-act "anti-war" plays in aid of. the funds of the League of Nations (Lower Hurt Branch);. •, During - the •■.': evening Mr.Walter "'Nash, M.P. (vice-president' of the branch), spoke of the splendid work the league was doing; and of its value to all the world. The plays were produced by Mr. J.Yaldwyii and Mrs. Grevills Wiggs. . v The plays were .well acted. Additional .items were given by Mrs. Wilfred Andrews and Mr. Ernest Glading (vocal), their- accompanist being Mrs: J. ■•■ W./,Andrews; orchestral music by Mr. Langtree arid his- orchestra; and skipping; dance by a pupil of Miss Kathleen Bartbsh. .Among those in ■ the audience w,ere Dr, and Mrs. F; McLean, Mr. and Mrs. E. A Happy Occasion, i ~,■;, , ■ A delijhlful dance was given by Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Dickens, at their home in Waterloo Road, in honour of their daughter Barbara, who, with her mother arid" -father, welcomed the guefs. Mrs. Dickens wore a gown of nigger brown marocain, and her daughter wore scarlet matalasse. arid silver lame. Beautiful roses and many bright bowls of flowers had been arranged in the dining-room, where the table was set for supper, with a cake and its shining candles,, holding the place of honour at the head of the table. Lemon-tinted shades" made a ijjlbw of colour, and dozens of multicoloured streamers made the dance room a scene of festivity. Thejspacious verandah was arranged for'sittirig-ou't purposes, another small and cbsyroom opening off this, with sofas and easy chairs, proving a haven for" the dancers. Mr. Rudd Dickens was M.C., and the following guests were present:—Misses Lulu Dickens, Mona Rodger, 'Jean Adams, Mary Jones, Betty Jones, Lin McGowan, Babe Thompson, Ruth Gower, Mary Chesney, Nancy Olphert, Margaret Eastwood, Joan Butchers Beryl Oakley, Ann Cope; arid Messrs.
