Owing to the reported wreck of; the cable steamcr'Cable at Cape St. James, 1 near Saigon, Cochin^China, last month, • it is .believed that the cable steamer ; Recorder, which for many years has been stationed at Auckland, will be called upon to carry out any. necewary repairs in the northern area until the lost vessel is replaced. Although no official information has ' been received, it is understood" the Gable, which was stationed at Singa- ■ pore, went ashore at Cape St. James, '■ where there is a cable station, and i became a total loss.
