SCHOOL CRICKET
RONGOTAI AND HUTT VALLEY
A DRAWN GAME
Both teams made a good showing in the annual match between the first elevens of Rongolai College and the Hutt Valley High School, which was played at Lower Hutt yesterday, and the match ended in a draw.
R. Muir, the Hutt Valley captain, gave his side a good start with a score of 79. and Jarvis joined Mm to carry the total to 116, when he fell lbw to Drake. Pointon made an attractive showing, and his score of 44 included five 4's. The innings at 3.20 for 234.
Wall and Raven put on 71 for Rongotai for the first wicket. Raven, who scored 29, was the first to go, clean bowled by a ball which hung in the air from the slow left-hander, Muir. Kcnner then joined Wall and the pair carried the total along at a brisk rate to 175, where Kenner, who had shaped brightly for 39, was bowled by Trevethick. Time was getting on, and the Kongotai lads attempted to force the pace, but started to lose wickets to Muir's slow spinners. Wall, when he only required three runs to reach his century, was bowled by Muir. He gave a very sound display, hitting ten 4's. Seven wickets were down for 226, and only nine runs were wanted for victory when time was called, the match thus ending in a draw. The following are the scores:— HUTT VALLEY.
