DURBAN, November 26.
The first match of their South. African tour, against Natal, was won by the Australian cricketers by an innings and 26 runs. In reply to the tourists' score of 522 for five wickets (declared), Natal made 242 and, following on, 254. In the second innings Harvey scored a century but Nourse, who made a century in the first innings, was dismissed before he opened his account. Chipperfield was the most successful bowler, taking four wickets for 53 runs. When play was resumed today the weather was sunny, but a stiff south-1 wester was blowing, raising the dust j and frequently blowing the bails off. O'Reilly was absent, as he was slightly indisposed. ! Siedle and Harvey were not troubled by the opening attack and 100 appeared after the innings had been in progress 85 minutes. TWO QUICK WICKETS. Chipperfield was then called on and immediately caused ' a separation, catching Siedle off his own bowling. Siedle batted 110 minutes and hit seven boundaries. Nourse was bowled two balls later. At the luncheon adjournment the score was 151 for three wickets. Harvey and Dalton kept tip a good rate of scoring, treating Chipperfield and Fleetwood-Smith harshly, but just when Dalton looked to be set, Chipperfield dismissed him in a similar manner to Siedle. Harvey reached his century after 199 minutes' batting.- He hit two 6's and eight 4's. The tail-enders again failed and the innings closed after it had lasted 238 minutes. The bowlers were sorely handicapped by a howling gale. Details: — AUSTRALIA. First Innings 522 (Declared closed for five wickets.) NATAL. First Innings 242 Second Innings. H. F.
