At St. Paul, Rear-Admiral Eyrd, when told tVf the discovery of a mountain chain,, declared: "I am delighted to hear of it. It will undoubtedly fill in another, blank space_ in the map of the Antarctic. The importance of this discovery will be appreciated by all who are interested in the Antarctic region." He added that to previous explorers, including ■ himself, the mountains weiii unknown.

Stefansis on declared: "It is a fine contribution to geography. It seems to me to have made a substantial addition'to the work previously done on the same section by Wilkins. Particularly interesting; is the presumption that the range erf mountains observed may be a continuation of the Andes."
