PAEKAKARIKI CLUB

In glorious sunshine and with the green in splendid order, the Paekakanki Bowling Club opened the 1935-36 season on Saturday. After the opening ceremony play was enjoyed by members and visitors, and afternoon tea supplied by members' wives enjoyed. The president (Mr. J. S. Smith) introduced the patron (Mr. C. J. B. Norwood), who, in a few very well chosen remarks, welcomed the visitors and congratulated the executive on their excellent work, which he described as a labour of love. He specially mentioned the rock garden the work of Mr. F. R. Holton, and the' excellent work done by the green superintendent. The well-kept appearance of the green was a credit to the hard-working committee. Mr. Norwood then called on Mrs. J. S. Smith, wife of the president, to throw up the first jack, and Mrs. Holton delivered the first bowl, producing the first toucher of the season. The green was then declared open, cheers being given for Mr. Norwood and the visitors. A very pleasant afternoon was spent in typical Paekakariki sunshine.
