COMMUNIST PARTY

MEETING AT HATAITAI

A meeting of the Communist Party was held in the Realm Hall, Hataitai, last evening. There was a good attendance, and the speakers, Mr. E. Cook and Miss Rawcliffe, were listened to attentively. In her address, Miss Rawcliffe replied to a letter she had received from the small chemists of this country, who were protesting against the competition of an outside monopoly, which was arranging to establish itself ■ here.

"The chemists and other small traders are opposed to monopolies; the workers are also opposed to the monopolies," she said. "They are our common enemy; therefore, the struggle of the small chemist must also be the struggle of the workers. The competitive forces of Capitalism are squeezing out the small man. He desperately tries to preserve himself as a member of a class in this unequal struggle. He is doomed to failure. It is only by linking up with the worker that the small man can assist in driving back the attack of the monopolists."

Answering a questionnaire from the N.U.W.M., in which support was asked for the unemployed workers' demands, the candidate stated that not only did the party which she represented support these demands, but was prepared to go out to assist in the building of the organisation of the unemployed, which was the only way to ensure that these demands would be acceded to.

After a few questions were asked and answered, a hearty vote of thanks and confidence in the candidate was moved and carried with acclamation.
