DISPLAY BY NAVAL MEN
SABRE AND FOIL CONTESTS
.Although, they had only, spring bayonets sliding in the barrels of dummy rifles, a display, of bayonet fighting given on Saturday night by men-from the cruiser Dunedin was realistic enough to bring to mind the thought that they-would be very dangerous combatants with- the approved weapon.tinder fighting conditions. The men made a good showing. The display was'given in, a 40ft ring, and the competitors ..were heavily padded, masked, and gloved.
In the first round A.B. Maple beat R.M. King; R.M. 'Oughtoh beat R.M Spencer; R.M. Woods beat R.P.O. Parvm. In the second round; Maple beat S.L; Gillespie, 3-1; "Oughton beat Woods, 3-2. Oughton beat Maple in the final by three hits against two. .. The: naval team ■ also took part' in sabre and-foil contests with the Wellington Swords. Club and R.N.V.R. members.
