SURPLUS AGAIN INCREASES
1 t £ c a.nnual report of the directors ot tne Australasian Temperance and General Life Assurance Society, Ltd., discloses that the funds have increased to £22,432,506, of which £10,903,620 is in the ordinary department, £11,463,510 ■IJcmo.£le- industrial department, and t.bo,d7b in the accident department. The addition to the funds, £2,094,141 is the largest recorded by the society m any one year. The interest rate for the year on the mean funds, excluding overdue interest, was £4 10s 9d o per cent. Of the total assets of ±.<Jd,170,360, 65.2 per cent, is invested m Government, municipal, and other local body securities. .«>Ti¥w surplus for the year was £754,375, compared with £720 071 the Previous year. After setting aside £50,000 for actuarial contingencies, this surplus permitted bonuses to c paid on the same scale as last year.
