REPORTED RELEASE
CAPTIVE MISSIONARY
IN. SERIOUS CONDITION
(Received November 23, 9 a.m.)' PEKING, November 21. An unconfirmed report from Changw teh, Hunan Province, reports release of the missionary, Hayman, but that his Swiss companion Bosshardt is still in captivity. Mr. Hayman'is reported to be in a serious physical condition.
Messrs. A. Hayman, of Auckland, and Bosshardt, a Swiss, have been in the hands of Chinese Communists since October 9 last year, when they were captured while serving on the staff of the China Inland Mission at Kinchow. It was reported early this week that news had reached the British Embassy at Peking that the missionaries Hayman and Bosshardt were seen alive in North-west Hunan on November 12 by a Chinese emissary, who visited the Communist stronghold in connection with negotiations for the release of the pair.
