TOURISTS ARRIVE
STRATHNAVER'S CRUISE
FAST TRIP TO AUCKLAND
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, November 22. With 874 tourists on board and about 40 passengers from England and the East for New Zealand, the Peninsular and Orient tourist ship Strathnaver arrived at Auckland this afternoon. There was a large crowd on the wharf to await the arrival, and she was berthed almost like a'ferry, boat. The Strathnaver had made an exceptionally fast trip from Brisbane, a distance of 1354 miles to Auckland being covered at an average speed of 20.56 knots. For the most part the voyage was rough, and many of the passengers did not appear on the deck until the ship reached the harbour. Four representatives of the Government V°urist Bureau travelled, to Auckland on the ship, and complete arrangements . had been, made for various trips by the tourists through the North Island before the Strathnaver leaves Wellington at 6 o'clock on Monday evening for Sydney. She is to leave Auckland at midnight ■ tomorrow for Wellington. . Immediately after the ship arrived at Auckland a party of 40 people was dispatched for Wellington by car, it being intended that they should reach
Waitomo tonight, Wairakei tomorrow, and Wanganui on Sunday. Twenty of the tourists left on.a trip to Waitomo and Rotorua, and they will.rejoin the ship tomorrow night.. A; small party also left for Wellington, via Rotorua, Waitomo, and New Plymouth. Another party of 100 left for Rotorua, and then some of them are for the Chateau and some for Napier. They will rejoin the Strathnaver at Wellington.
