YACHTING
NEW AUCKLAND CLASS
During the past few seasons a new type of keel yacht, designed primarily as a cruiser, has made its appearance on the Waitemata. In most cases s,ail area has been restricted to make for . easy handling, and in the design of hull, form, etc., certain speed factors . have been placed second to considera- < tions of comfortl cabin accommodation, and roominess. Realising that this type of craft is a particularly desirable one to encourage, ■ the Akarana Yacht Club has decided to establish a new class to be known as the Akarana Cruiser Class, says the "New Zealand Herald." It is felt by the club/that to meet the ! widely diverging requirements of own- , ers, the restrictions on the type of yes- , sel in this cruiser class should be as few as possible, and it has.been suggeted tentatively that the restrictions be as follows:—The class shall be limited to bona-fide cruiser type keel . yachts exceeding ,20ft 1.w.1.,, with a proviso that any boat.in the class consistently exceeding a speed of 700 seconds per mile shall be transferred to , one of the present racing classes. j There will be no other restrictions . whatever on the boat, sails, oi crew. , This season a separate race will be held for the class on each club racing day except general handicaps.
