SPEEDWAY RACING
SEASON'S PROSPECTS
KILMISTER RETURNING
With the expected arrival in Wellington on December 8 of E. Langton,' England's speedway Test captain, and the following day of the remainder of the English team, consisting of S. Greatrex, W. Clibbert, and R. Harrison, together with the Australian, L. Van Praag and R. Case, the speedway season is to. open in Wellington on December 14. The track at the Kilbirnie Stadium will be available for practice for the first time Ihis" season next Tuesday, and will also be open on Thursday. While it is difficult at this stage to indicate the number of riders likely to be competing this year, it seems definite that there will be several new men in action keen to match their skill with that of the visitors. WELLINGTON'S OWN. Formidable opposition is assured the tourists from at least one man. This is W. Kilmister, of Wellington,' New Zealand's crack cinder-shifter, who has been riding with outstanding success in England for the past four seasons, and who is returning to the Dominion under engagement to the local speedway company. His last season in England was a particularly successful one, and his brilliant riding was frequently the subject of eulogistic Press references. Though, as a New.Zealander, it was considered in many quarters that Kilmister should have been permitted to compete for Australia in the Tests against England, he was debarred for some reason from doing so. This was most unfortunate, since the matches were not only important, but lucrative. ' HERE BEFORE. With the exception of Clibbert, Harrison, and Greatrex, all the visiting riders mentioned are well known in this country, having previously competed here. Their form in England was consistently good last season, especially that of Case, who was responsible for many thrilling exhibitions, and they should prove very popular with Wellington speedway enthusiasts. The electric starting gate, which did so much last year to ensure the prompt dispatch of events, will. be in use again this season, and, since the majority of the local riders ■ have now fitted clutches to their machines, an even greater degree of efficiency can be expected in the running of the programmes. . • .
