KELLY'S POOH EFFORT

GALILEE NO DERBY FILLY

(Special from "Early Bird.") AUCKLAND, November^ 22. : Ella Bunsby, a jiall-sister by Captain Bunsby to Ballymoney' arid Surella, had her first 'race, -at .Te- Rapa.; She ran very, greenly ihi? her, preliminary, 'and rwas never-sigh ted, during the con-, test, but she-Is a.likely-looking sort. Hunting Maid'finished in the middle! of .the field in the 'Trial at Te'.Rapa last Saturday, - and, improved. by this outing,-she made a much better showing on Monday^.when she had to" give away weight to all except one horse. She is engaged, iri the 'maiden class at Takapuria next week, and she may talte some heading off. "'/ ' Kelly failed to show up in the Waikato Cup. and .he..is still a long, waybelow the form he disclosed last autumn. Last season it was midsummer before the Kilbroney gelding struck his best form, and perhaps it will be later in the season before he stages a comeback. He is. engaged in the Alison Cup at Ellerslie on Saturday week, when he will be called upon to meet several 1 promising and improving handicap horses. The Taranaki horses Bantry and Alchemic, who were so successful in the early spring, went only fair races at the Waikato Meeting, and it is probable that they have lost their form for the time being. It is, of course, possible that, they owed their advantage in the early spring- over other horses now proving their superior to the fact that they were further advanced in their preparation, and this suggests that after a brief let-up these hacks may not be difficult to place again.
