KNITTED ACCESSORIES
Accessories to add ah air of smart' chic to the summer frock—the collar and flowers shown here are Knitted in white linen thread and may be worn together, or separately in a number of different ways, to give variance to the mood of the frock. ' Materials required: Two ounces boucle wool or linen thread, .three No. 1? needles. . DIRECTIONS. The Collar.— Cast on 23 stitches and knit into the back of these stitches; work in garter stitch (each row plain) aud to give the required curve,* every sth row only knit to within five stitches of the inner edge, turn and knit back to outside, then continue right across for four rows, then repeat again from *. When /there are 560 rows, counting on outer edge, cast off. Twisted Tie for Collar.— This is worked in stocking stitch (one row plain, one row purl). Cast on two stitches
and, keeping one edge straight, increase one stitch at other edge every row 22 times, .when there: will be 24 stitches on the needle. Work 15 rows of stocking stitch•• on -these, * then slip the first 12 stitches on to the third needle. Put this needle to, the back and knit the'following 12 stitches,: then knit. 12 on the third needle. This forms the crossed effect. ■. Then, knit- 20, rows right across and repeat from *.- When this has been.done 20 times in all, work 15 rows and other tab to,same shape as first .one by decreasing on the one edge every row till only two are left. Knit together. •..■;■: Stitch one edge of the s tie to the inside of the collar, leaving the ends free 1o be knotted. Tack lightly on to dress. ■ Knitted Flowers. —Each flower is composed of five petals, the directions for one of which are given here. Cast; on 20 stitches and work 15 stitches garter stitch and five in stocking stitch. Turn, work six rows stocking stitch on the five only, • finish row across 15 in garter- stitch. Work back and then work the five again for six rows in reversed stocking stitch (wrong side of stitch over right side of previous five rows); repeat from *. This reversing and turning will make a frilled edge. After the first time only knit across 10 stitches instead of the 15; This will, avoid'bulk at the inside edge of the petal. ' ' ■ When there are 35 frills on outer edge (or 420 rows), cast off the whole 20 stitches. I Make five of these petals for each flower and fasten them together in the centre with a tiny button mould covered by crochet. The stalks are made of rectangular j pieces, 12 stitches wide by 2in long, which are rolled over and stitched in position. ~.■.'
