MOTHERS' CLUB
HAPPY CELEBRATION
Members of the Taranakl Street Mothers' Club held a particularlyhappy gathering in the Tudor Hall, Cuba Street, recently to celebrate the twenty-fifth anniversary of Miss Edna Scott's directorship at the Taranaki Street branch of the Wellington Free Kindergarten. The hall was decorated with many streamers and festoons of Chinese lanterns, and the lights were covered with large streamer shades.
The guests were received by Mrs. F. Crawford, president of the Mothers' Club, who wore a handsome frock of gold lace, with diamante accessories. Assisting Mrs. Crawford were Mrs. P. Anderson (secretary), Mrs. R. Duncan, Mrs. E. Levy, Mrs. A. R. Smith, Mrs. H. J. Helberg, Mrs. F. Mitchell, Mrs. Elmiger, Mrs. G. Carr, Mrs. M. Lawson, Mrs. Wanden, and Mrs. J. MacLeod —all members of the committee. Members of the council present were Mesdames Doctor, Davidson, Eichelbaum, Vickery, Briton-Smith, Hays, David, Smith, Gilbert, Bachelor, Simpson, Gillingham, Didsbury, Dowsett, and the Misses Seaton, Wallace, England, and Little.
The guest of honour was presented with a crystal table lamp and a crystal clock by Mrs. Crawford on behalf o£ the members of the Mothers' Club. The ex-pupils gave her an autograph book containing the names of all present at the party, and the students' gift was a pair of vases. The graduates presented her with a leather case, and Miss Sadie Kwok, on behalf of her father, gave her a beautiful Chinese work basket.
Mr. Peter Fraser gave an address on kindergarten v/ork, and Mrs. A. H. Smith, president of the United Mothers' Club, spoke in eulogistic terms of the guest of honour, to whom she presented a charming bouquet. Other speakers were Mrs. J. A. Doctor (president of the Wellington Free Kindergarten Association), Miss Enid Wilson (■principal), and Mis. K. M. Dowsett (secretary). Mr. H. A. Scott, brother of the guest of honour, replied on her behalf, Miss Scott later thanking one and all for their loyalty and beautiful gifts.
