IN THE FAB SOUTH
SOUTHLAND'S INNOVATION
The Southland Racing Club's Spring Meeting, which will be held at Invercargill tomorrow, is a new departure, but the fields that have been attracted have justified the innovation. The Turf Registers back to the nineties do not reveal any previous spring fixture held by this club. The betting, as is now tisual at Invercargill, will be under the win-and-place system. According to reports there was heavy rain early in the week in the far south, so the track is likely to be easy.
The following horses are likely to claim attention:—
Southland Highweight Handicap — Golden Lap, June the Third, and Oliver.
Waverley Trot.—Harold Guy, Master Garry, and Autogo. Flying Handicap.—Bay Duke and Hula Belle.
Roslyn Trial Handicap.—Palarino, Corban, and Obligement. .Southland Cup.—Amy Johnson and Milford.
New River Trot.—Eighteen Carat, Happiness, and Master Garry. Stewart Island Hack Handicap.—Bay Biddy, Amelita, and Island Linnet. ■ Tradesmen's Handicap.—Last Link, Horn's Reef, and Grand Finale.
