MR. MAZENGARB'S MEETINGS
At tho Sealoun Kiosk yesterday afternoon Mr. O. C. Mazengarb addressed a meeting of fifty ladies, over which Mrs. S. C. Eaton presided.
The candidate explained the constitutional position which would arise if the main parties in the House were anything like evenly divided, with the balance of power held by the few Independent members. He also warned the electors against the grave dangers involved in the Labour Party's scheme to manufacture big batches of paper money. Mrs. Mazengarb also spoke briefly.
In the evening at Taia Hall there was a crowded audience and numbers of people were unable to gain admittance to the hall. There were but few interruptions throughout the address, which occupied one and a half hours, the candidate dealing mainly with the dangers of currency inflation. Mr. Mazengarb pointed to Mr. Savage's intention of raising £2,000,000 "against the credit of the country" for tha Napier-Gisborne railway. The Labour Leader's intention was to raise this money "not by taxation and not by borrowing." This could only mean that it was to be raised by the issue of paper money which would immedialoly depreciate the value of everyone's assets. It was in effect enforced confiscation of the capital of every person. The life-time savings of the- people were in jeopardy.
At the conclusion of the meeting he was accorded a unanimous vote of thanks and confidence in his ability to represent Wellington. East,
