NO MONEY FOR COAL

For stealing two pieces of timber, valued at 4s, on November 8, Leonard William Poole was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence if called upon within three months, when he appeared before Mr. J. H. Luxford, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court today Senior-Sergeant J. Dempsey said builders had been erecting a house in Fitzherbert Terrace and the accused entered the section and took the two pieces of wood. He was on sustenance. His explanation was that he had taken them for,firewood.

Questioned by the Magistrate, Poole said he had taken the wood under extreme circumstances to make a fire to cook his food as he could not afford to buy coal. The wood had been thrown out on the scrapheap.
