LONDON, November 21,
"When you see land-hungry nations like Italy and Japan grasping what they can, seeking a place in the sun, you realise what a terrible temptation the British Empire is to the world," said the Bishop of London at the Church Assembly.
He instanced Australia's "six and a half millions scattered like flies round the circumference of a saucer," and alluded to New Zealand, Canada, and South' Africa. "When I was in .Sydney," he added, "the Governor of New South Wales, who was an admiral, told me that if the Japanese had been against us in the Great War they could have taken Sydney and Melbourne in five minutes.
The Bishop commended the work of the Empire Settlement Council, and said that if the Empire was to be saved it must be peopled with loyal British from end to end.
