MEESKE AND WALKER.
Billy Meeske, Australia's best allround sportsman and former lightheavyweight wrestling champion of the world, will meet George Walker at the Wellington Show Stadium on Saturday night. Meeske disputes Walker's claim to the British Empire title, claiming that he won it in open competition after the Great War and that it has not been taken from him. During his 1931 visit to New Zealand Meeske met Walker in a title match being disqualified for making unnecessary use of the ropes. Since that time Meeske has added two stone to hi:; weight and has greatly increased his strength. Following his recent series of matches Walker is now in better fettle than at any previous stage of the season. Of his matches during the past two months Walker has lost only one and that a points decision to 'Tiger" Duala at Auckland. Walker's last Wellington match, with Wong Bock Cheung, was one of the best o£ the season and his bout wih Meeske should be an equally torrid encounter. Meeske proved against the Chinese wrestler last week that besides being a great showman he is a splendid wrestler who will make Walker work hard to keep from being beaten. A series of esnecially good amateur bouts will supplement the main attraction.
