LODER CUP PRIZE

SIR A. YOUNG NOMINATED Sir Alexander Young, Minister of Internal Affairs, has been nominated by the Royal Society for the Loder Cup, which is presented annually to the person who contributes most towards the preservation of the Dominion's native flora and'fauna. The present holder of the cup is the former Governor-General, Lord Bledisloe. Sir Alexander's nomination by this organisation is a scientific recognition of what he has done in the direction of protecting native flora, particularly along the lines of deer destruction. He is very enthusiastic about the subject, about which he has as much knowledge as anyone in his Department, and it is really due to his interest and knowledge that the Government is definitely committed to a policy of deer destruction as a means of preserving the country's native forests. The success of the campaign has been such, it was learned today, that the increasing sale of deer skins has materially reduced the cost of destruction to the Consolidated Fund.

Nominations for the trophy close on November 30. It is understood that there will be other names submitted.
