TRADE WITH AMERICA

AN AGREEMENT SOUGHT

OFFICIAL STEPS TAKEN

(By Telegraph—Press Association.)

AUCKLAND, November 19.

"In keeping with the policy of the Government to improve the trade of New Zealand with other countries, steps have been taken to arrange if possible a trade agreement, with the United States, and the matter has been the subject of official communications," writes the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates, Minister of Finance, in a letter replying to a suggestion recently made by the Auckland Chamber of Commerce that a reciprocal trade agreement be made with the United States.

Mr. Coates adds that he understands in the meantime that the benefits of agreements concluded by the United States with other countries will be extended to New Zealand.
