I A meeting of all Scouters in the i Hutt Valley was held on Monday evening at the home of the new District Commissioner, Mr. J. E. F. Vogel, when the district president, Mr. E. L. Riddiford, and the district committee 1 were present. The committee comprises the Rev. G. V. Gerard, chairman, Mr. M. J. Daniel, treasurer, and Messrs. Aldrich, Bagnall, Clark, Dyer, Gieson, Harding, Hepburn, Johnston, and Olphert, committee members. The new District Commissioner addressed the gathering, and several of the Scouters spoke, welcoming him to the movement. It was decided, among other things, that a rally be held during March, in the grounds of Mrs. Riddiford's home in Woburn Road, which has been kindly offered for the purpose. The annual meeting of the Wellingiton North District Association is to be 'held in the Sydney Street Schoolroom !on Monday, December 2, at 8 p.m. It is .hoped that all in the district interested lin the movement will be present.

; In connection with' The Terrace Group Mr. P. T. Smither has found it necessary to resign from Group Scoutmaster in order to obtain more time to concentrate on his work as District jScoutmaster for Wellington North. Miss \R. Macintyre, Cubmaster, is resigning jin view of her approaching marriage. Both resignations take effect at the end of this year, when Mr. Smither will have completed ten years and Miss Macintyre nearly five years with the group. At a meeting of the group committee last Thursday evening it was resolved to recommend the appointments of Mr. Ray ScarS as Scoutmaster and Mr. Harry Allison as Cubmaster. Mr. Fred Evans will continue to act as Assistant Scoutmaster and Miss A. Pridmore as Assistant Cubmaster.

Despite the weather last Wednesday evening a good number of parents, friends, and Scouters were present at the parents' evening held by the Wadestown Group. Skipper noted •with joy the following Scouters among the sea of faces:—Miss I. Newbury (District Cubmaster, Wellington North), Kamahi and Mahoe (Petone), Mr. and Mrs. Griffiths (Basilica Troop), Mr. J. O'Neill (Roseneath), Messrs. Evans and Scarffi and Miss Pridmore (The Terrace). A varied programme of work and games was carried out. The proceedings opened at 7.30 p.m., when the Cub pack put on the "Dance of Baloo." Shortly afterwards the District Commissioner, Mr. Boyle, accompanied by Mrs. Boyle, arrived with the District Scoutmaster, Mr. Smither, and was enthusiastically welcomed by the Cubs and Scouts in the customary manner. Following on this the troop proceeded with their portion of the programme, endeavouring to represent a day's work in camp. This consisted of the erection of a trestle bridge and the staging of an accident (broken leg and a wound on the forehead), which involved the calling up of a stretcher party by Morse, and a test for the first aid party, in charge of Patrol Leader Sam Lister. Having completed the first aid the stretcher party proceeded to carry the patient across the river over a bridge (constructed). The Group Scoutmaster, "Tuakana," gave an interesting half-hour lantern talk on his experiences in the Southern Alps. A short camp.fire led up to something of the more serious side of Scouting, when the Commissioner presented Tuakana, Miss Parlane, and Miss Johns with their warrants as Group Scoutmaster, Cubmaster, and Assistant Cubmaster by the impressive ceremony of "Ipise." Supper concluded a successful evening. Special thanks are due to Mushka for his valuable help in the bridge building.
