LONDON HIDE MARKET

Weddel and Co., London, October 3, write:—The very firm market has been maintained, and hides at most origins are higher than they were a week ago. Perhaps the most disappointing feature of the market has been the comparatively slow progress made in sound frig, ox hides. As regards colonial descriptions and miscellaneous sorts, markets have moved in favour of shippers. New Zealand li-eezer cow hides have reached 5 3-Bd, with abattoirs offering at 4 7-Bd. Most Australian hides are marked up by l-8d to 3d, but the non-ticky varieties have the better market. The River Plate dry hide market continues firm. Americanos are at 6Jd to 6 7-Bd.
