FIGHTS IN PARIS

CIVIL WAR ATMOSPHERE

FASCIST DEMONSTRATION

STREET BATTLE PREVENTED LONDON, November 11. The "Manchester Guardian's" Paris correspondent says that a provocative effort by the Solidarite Francaise to turn the Armistice Day celebrations into a Fascist demonstration caused trouble when, wearing blue shirts and carrying banners, Fascists insolently marched up the Champs Elysees. An atmosphere of civil war swept the crowd. There were immediate shouts of "Down M'ith Fascists," answered with cries of "Vive la France" and the singing of the "Marseillaise." Such shouting from thousands of throats has not been hearrt in Paris •before. Free fights started everywhere, the marvel being that police prevented a streel. battle of 300,000. The Solidarite Francaise is not connected with ex-servicemen, and it is inexplicable how permission was granted for such a provocative march.
