PLUNKET APPEAL

CAMPAIGN ACTIVITIES

The appeal now being made by'the Plunket Society for £ 1000 to. wipe off the debt on the. current year's operations is not falling on deaf ears, and many who realise the value to the community of the work done by this organisation are lending a hand in the endeavours being made to raise the money. Details of the voting competition and other phases of the drive were published in "The Post" last Saturday, and the active interest which is being taken in these augurs well for the financial result. There is every reason to anticipate that Wellington's mothers and babies will not find wanting the services and assistance which they have come to expect. Tomorrow afternoon, from 2.30 p.m. until 4.30 p.m., the Karitane Hospital grounds will be thrown open to the public for the moderate sum of one shilling, which will include a cup of tea. The rhododendrons there are at the present time a mass of bloom and are well worth seeing. But apart from that, visitors will have the opportunity of seeing the factory in full working order, and mothers in particular should be interested in seeing Kariol (emulsion) and Karilac (sugar) being manufactured for their babies' benefit. Tomorrow afternoon's function is only one of the many thai, are being organised for this deserving cause, and everybody who wants it will be given the opportunity during the next two or three weeks of doing his or her little bit towards helping. What the committee would appreciate best of all is the building up of a substantial subscription list, thereby ensuring a fixed income sufficient to meet all needs. The Plunket Society as its work increases, and it inevitably must increase as time goes on, costs more to run, and from the very nature of its operations it cannot be self-supporting.
