RETURN OF BILLY MEESKE.
Billy Meeske, Australia's champion wrestler and former light-heavyweight champion of the world, who will make his initial appearance of his present New Zealand visit at the Wellington Show Stadium on Saturday night, is one of those rare individuals to whom all things come easily. He shone at many sports and, had he not decided to stick closely to wrestling, might have made a name for himself in the professional boxing world. As a lightheavyweight boxer he had nineteen fights as a professional, winning them all. Wrestling, however, claimed his attentions to such good purpose that in 1926 he won the world's light- j heavyweight title from Mike Yokel. In 1925 he had drawn with the then champion, Ted Thye, in a title match. Meeske won the title during a tour of America in w'nich he had 28 matches, losing only two. Both his losses were against the redoubtable Billy Edwards, but Meeske subsequently had his revenge, defeating Edwards on three occasions. His opponent on Saturday night will be the Chinese wrestler Wong Bok Cheung, whose recent match with V alker was considered one of the best of the season. Though Wong wrestled in Australia for some time he never met Meeske in the ring. His Canton whirl and Hong Kong squat have yet to be seen in New- Zealand. Further particulars are advertised.
