HUTT VALLEY LINE
EXTENSIONS URGED
ELECTRIC POWER WANTED
A representative deputation from th* Hutt Valley local authorities waited on the General Manager of Railways (Mr. G. H. Mackley) yesterday to urge that the railway line which now finishes at Waterloo should be extended to the top of the Valley, thot it should be duplicated, and that electric traction should be used between Wellington and the foot of the Rimutaka Range. The deputation was introduced by Mr. Walter Nash. The deputation consisted of Messrs. A. Scholefield (Mayor of Petone), H. Firth (Town Clerk, Petone), J. W. Andrews (Mayor of Lower Hutt), Aj J. McCurdy (Mayor of Upper Hutt)» Purvis, Guthrie. and Blewman (count cjllors. Upper Hutt), and S. Blackleg (Hutt County Council). After the deputation had stated the views of Ihe local bodies concerned, the General Manager ■■ said that he would bring the requests before the Railways Board and would give a reply at the earliest possible opportunity.
