FIVE INMATES DEAD FIGHT WITH RESCUERS MONTREAL, November 10 Five inmates lo=t their lives ana 35 were injured today when fire de stroyed the east wing of the St. Jean de Dieu Mental Hospital. The lives of 170 inrr.-'es in that part of the institution were endangered. The flames gained considerable headway before the alarm was given. Nuns, nurses, and guards fought their way through the blazing building to release those locked up. Four of the inmates who lost their lives were violently insane. They fought thenrescuers after they had been removed and rushed back into the flames A fifth died of shock. Cver 3000 inmates in other parts of the building became frantically excited for a time and panic threatened the entire institution.
