FRUITLESS SEARCH

MISSING AEROPLANE

KINGSFORD SMITH AND CO-PILOT

CONTINUED EFFORTS

United Press Association—By Electric Tolo Braph—Copyright. SINGAPORE, November 11. The search for Sir Charles Kingsford Smith and his co-pilot, Mr. J. T. Pethybridge, who have been missing since Friday, when they left Allahabad for Singapore on their flight from England to Australia, has so far been unsuccessful, and is being continued. The flying-boats took off at dawn to search all islands and the coast between Rangoon and Victoria Point. Mr. C. J. Melrose left to search the place where he thought he saw Sir Charles's Lockheed-Altair machine in the Bay of Bengal. The flying-boats advised by wireless that they arrived at Rangoon after a fruitless thorough search of the Bay of Bengal. The Vildebeestes and Melrose searched the coast and all islands westward of Siam. All are resuming at dawn, the flying-boats making a wider sweep. The Australian Government has sent a message to Air Commodore Sidney Smith warmly thanking him for his search efforts. He says he will continue while the faintest hope remains. The Commonwealth also has authorised the use of the Qantas DHB6 now at Singapore, and the airliner is taking off at dawn for Mergui.
