"SAILORS DON'T CARE"
Mr. C. A. L. Treadwell (referring, at a Molesworth Street meeting last evening, to shipping lines): All those who have had anything to do with sailors know ....
The close of the sentence was drowned in laughter and interjections.
Mr. Treadwell: I'm glad they were all men interjectors then.
A voice: Come on, let's have it!
AUTHORITIES IGNORED
The extension of the life of Parliament by the Government was condemned by Mr. R. McKeen, Labour candidate for Wellington South, when speaking at Island Bay last night. He said that every authority on the British Constitution stated definitely that it was unconstitutional to extend the life of Parliament by one year, because the Parliamentary Act laid down that the life of Parliament was for three years and no more.
"The Government, in face of constitutional authorities, waved this aside, because it knew that if it had gone to the people for a mandate to continue its policy, it would have been swept from the Treasury benches of the country," declared Mr. McKeen.
