NOTED ENTOMOLOGIST
DR. TILLYARD ARRIVES A visitor from Australia to New Zealand by the Monowai, which arrived at Wellington yesterday afternoon, was Dr. R. J. Tillyard, formerly of the Cawthron Institute, Nelson. Dr. Tillyard said that it was his first visit to New Zealand since he left Nelson in 1928 to take up the position of Chief Commonwealth-; Entomologist at Canberra; the capital of Australia. He had resigned that postin.l934 owing to ill health. He had been invited by the Cawthron Trustees to. : deliver '^the annual Cawthron lecture in Nelson on November 13. ■' The subject of the lecture would "be "Tracing the Dawn of Life Further Backwards," and-the lecture would include sections on the age of the earth, the ancestry of man, the primitive life in the seas in Lower Cambrian times,, and an account of the recent discoveries about life in pre-Cambrian times. .He also expected to be lecturing in other centres later on, and would be broadcasting talks about insect life from Wellington and Christchurch during the latter half of November. ••■■ ■ He expressed great pleasure in once more seeing New Zealand, and looked forward to meeting many old friends. Dr. Tillyard left Wellington for Nelson last evening by the Kaitoa.
