FOE THE BACE ONLY | COUNTRY PARTY'S DISQUALIFICATION .■/;■ , i United Press Association—By Electric Xtlf graph—Copyright. (Received November 12, 1 p.m.) • MELBOURNE, This Day. Although Tancred, Jamieson, and Bartle have been disqualified for twelve months Country Party has been disqualified only for the Batman Stakes, not for a year as first reported. The stewards stated that bets on the Batman Stakes were not affected by their decision. ; The newspapers comment on the unusual course adopted in disqualifying the gelding only for the race and not for a period, but explain that this is quite legitimate under the Austra. Han Rules of Racing. If. the appeals of Tancred, Jamieson, and Bartle are. unsuccessful, Bustard will be awarded first prize in the Batman Stakes, Gay Sheik second, and Gay Circle third. Country Party did not race as a two-year-old, and had only two starts prior to the Batman Stakes. There werej said Councillor Dowse, two qualifica-1 tions required, the first being efficiency' and the second that residents of thai borough should receive first considera-f tion. He understood that a member? of the old band had been dismissed! and two members of the new band,l who resided outside the district, had been given employment. ; In reply the Mayor said that the j member of the old band referred to had ? been put off because the job he was "i employed at was finished. So far as! the other men were concerned he did; not know what men were referred to. j No additions had been made to thai permanent staff.
