NOT BEFORE CHRISTMAS
MOST IMPORTANT PHASE
STAND AT AMBA ALACI
LONDON, November 9.
Reuters Asmara correspondent says that a message by courier from the front line reports the Italian casualties since October 3 as one officer killed and four wounded; three Italian privates killed and six wounded; and 32 askaris killed and 71 wounded.
It is accepted as a certainty that the Abyssinians will make their first stand at Amba Alagi, therefore the most important phase of the wav cannot be before Christmas. Then Amba Alagi will be stormed and a sweep made to Lake Ashangi to complete the capture of Tigre province. A dispatch from the southern front says that the Italians, pushing out from Gorahai, have captured the villages of Gabredarre, Badiad, and Dadeno, also Durreh Araro further east. They admit that rain and the difficult terrain are hampering the movement of motorised units which were responsible for the capture of Gorahai.
