TENSION IN SHANGHAI
JAPANESE SHOT DOWN
INVESTIGATION DEMANDED
(Received November 11, 9 a.m.l SHANGHAI, November 10. Tension developed after a Japanese marine was shot down from behind, allegedly by a Chinese civilian who escaped.
The Japanese placed a cordon of troops along the boundary of the Japanese section of the international settlement, and stopped and searched pedestrians. The Japanese Embassy issued a statement expressing the hope that this serious matter will induce the Chinese authorities to take measures -to eliminate the clouds hovering over Chinese-Japanese relations.
Japanese naval headquarters declare that the incident is a direct provaction, and demand a thorough Chinese investigation.
