MISS BATTEN'S PLANS
SOUTH ATLANTIC FLIGHT
AIMING AT RECORD
(Received November 11, noon.)
LONDON, November 10.
Miss Jean Batten, who is at present at Lympne waiting to start on a flight to South America, said: "I intend to fly across Europe and West Africa and then try to beat the record for the sea crossing of 16J- hours. I have a good aeroplane with a range of 2400 miles and a cruising speed of 150. The French authorities made conditions before allowing me to fly over West Africa, but these are in my interest. I must carry twelve days' emergency rations, two gallons of water, a revolver, and a signal pistol firing coloured lights. I shall again wear the New Zealand flag muffler. 1 want to be the first woman to fly across the South Atlantic."
