N.S.W. CHAMPIONSHIPS
SYDNEY, November 10.
• The first round of the New South Wales lawn tennis championships was played on Saturday in dull but fine weather. The New Zealand ■w.omen participated in the .women's singles. Results are:— Women's Singles. Miss D. Miller (N.Z.) beat Miss T. Rice, 4-6, 6-3, 64. Miss V. Selwyn beat Miss Beverley (N.Z.), 6-2, 3-6, 6-1. Miss D. Nicholls (N.Z.) beat Miss Menzies, 6-3, 7-9, 6-3. Missßlick beat Miss Rudkin (N.Z.), 6-1, 6-2. Miss Hartigan beat Miss T. Poole (N.Z;), 6-2/frO. Miss I. Poole (N.Z.) beat Miss B. Miller, 6-3, 7-5. • Men's Singles. F. J. Perry beat S. Breakspear, 3-6, 8-6, 6-8, 6-3, 9-7. Crawford beat H. Betts, 6-0, 6-0, G-3. McGrath beat C. Donohoe, 4-6 6-1 7-5,9-7. Perry was apparently troubled by an injured back. His display was far from convincing, although Breakspear, who is a promising junior, played fine tennis.
