AT RICCARTON
GAMBLE ON WEATHER
The caprice of the weather added a further element of chance to the gamble that was Cup Day on Saturday at Riccarton, states the Christchurch "Star-Sun." The first day of the Canterbury Jockey Club's November Meeting, given fair weather, has traditionally brought out the loveliest of the smart Christchurch woman's summer wardrobe. There were those who staked their all and appeared in their new summer ensembles, but others took refuge in their tailored tweeds, while fur coats were every woman's standby.
Mrs. Arthur Elworthy (wife of the chairman), wore a suit of navy wool henriette made with a short boxcoat, a beige blouse with collar of lac-quer-red, and a small navy hat trimed with patent leather motifs, and fox fur. Mrs. G. W. Forbes, wife of the Prime Minister, wore a black suit under a fur coat. Her black straw hat had a plaited cipwn and was trimmed with a black and white quill.
