CHILDREN'S PARTY
LABOUR QUEEN CARNIVAL
The social hair in the Trades Hall was filled to capacity on Saturday afternoon on the occasion of the.children's fancy dress party, arranged by the ladies of the Labour Queen carnival committee. V
Over two hundred children: took part in the grand march and were arranged in order of ages. The costumes and dresses were of a high standard, and showed great care and work on the part of the mothers...' Icecreams; soft drinks, biscuits, games and dancing were enjoyed by the children and the parents were entertained to' afternoon tea by the committee.
Charlie, the clown, was the life and soul of the party, playing with the children and presenting a Punch and Judy show. ' -
The prize-winners were as follows— Fancy dress section: Zania Campbell ("Carnival"), 1; Doreen Carlyle ("Mexican"), 2. Poster section: Cora Jacobs, 1; Millie Jenner,, 2.: Original section: Merle Jacobs ("Yellowbird"), 1; Margaret Tallantire ("Pirate"), 2. Comic section: Terry Farrow, 1; Barry Hening, 2. Miss Shirley Key was.highly commended.
Mr. P. Fraser congratulated the judges, Miss Fuller-and Miss Farrer, and the committee responsible for the function.
The committee ' comprised: Mrs. Oatham (convener), Mesdames Smith, Taylor, Gibson, Bentley, and Walshi and Miss Rita Jeffries. ■
