ANNUAL COMPETITIONS
A HIGH STANDARD
The annual'competitions of the Wel-i lington district ol the St. John Ambu-1 lance Brigade, held at. the Garrison I Hall, Buckle Street, on Saturday afternoon, revealed a very high standard of efficiency. Ten nursing divisions and six ambulance divisions were I represented, entering 65 squads for the team events and 25 members for the individual contests. A large number of spectators witnessed the display. Mr. F. W. Ward, Assistant Commissioner, was in charge, and gave a hearty welcome to the visiting teams. He extended the thanks of the brigade to Drs. R. W. Richards, C. Gordon Kemp, P. A. Treahy, I. B. Ewart, D. McDonald Wilson, W. H. Blinman Bull, A. N. Slater, Douglas M. Paterson, Leslie Myers, Rolland O'Regan, W. F. Shirer, E. G. Gibbs, A. Tennant, and the hospital sisters who so kindly carried out the duties of judges. The following were the results of competition's:— Willowbank Challenge Cup. Open to teams from all districts. Nursing divisions only. Teams to be composed of four ambulance sisters. Double 10 yards to' patient, render first aid, carry patient 10 yards, and lower to ground.—First, Wellington South Nursing Division (Misses F. Bush, E. Cleaver, E. Paul, and R. McCarthy); second, Y.W.C.A. Nursing Division; Thjrd, Karori Nursing and Wellington N/irsing Division, equal. Welling'«i Challenge Cup. Open to teams from all districts. Ambulance (men's) divisions only. Teams to be composed of four men. Double 25 yards to patient, render first aid, place patient on stretcher, retire over obstacle to starting point, and unload stretcher. Each member of team must also sit for one practical first aid test with improvised material. —First, Nelson Ambulance Division; second, Wellington East Ambulance Division; third, Hutt Valley Railway Division. DISTRICT EVENTS. (Open to Divisions, Wellington District Only.) Self Help Challenge Cup. Open to Ambulance (men's) divisions only. Teams to be composed of four men. Double 25 yards to patient, render first aid, place patient on stretcher, retire over obstacle, and unload stretcher.— First, Wellington Ambulance Division (Corporal S. J. Rockell, Privates P. Tasker; J. Wood, and B. B. Sharplin)second. Nelson Ambulance Division; third, Hutt Valley Railway Division. . Rhodes Challenge Cup. Open to nursing divisions only. Teams to be composed of four ambulance sisters. Part I: First aid. Attend to patient, lif*. and place on bed. Part 11: Bedmaking and sheet-changing. Working in pairs. One test each pair. Part III: Roller bandaging. One test each member. Part IV: Oral. Two home nursing questions each member.—First, Wellington South Nursing Division (Misses F. Bush, E. Cleaver, E. Paul, R. McCarthy); second, Nelson Nursing Division; third, Y.W.C.A. Nursing Division. H. H. Seed Challenge Cup. Open to ambulance (men's) divisions only. Teams to be composed of four members. Double 50 yards to patient, render first aid. Place patient on stretcher, retire over obstacle and unload stretcher.—First, Nelson Ambulance Division; second, Petone Ambulance Division and Wellington East Ambulance Division, equal. Sandham Trophy. Open to ambulance (men's) divisions and nursing divisions. Teams to be composed of three members. Double 10 yards and render first aid.—First, Lower Hutt Nursing Division (Misses Stiles, Middle;on, and Hoare); second, Wellington Nursing Division; third, St. Paul's Nursing Division. Jessie Moorhouse Memorial Shield. Open to nursing divisions only. Teams of three. Double to patient and render first aid.—First, Wellington South Nursing Division (Misses E. Cleaver, E Paul, and R. McCarthy); second, Miramar Nursing Division; third, Wellington Nursing Division. Taurima Challenge Cup. Open" to nursing divisions only. Teams of four. Each division competing must enter two teams. Guthrie, E. Page, I. Sownard, and B. Simpson); second, equal, Wellington East Ambulance and Nelson Nursing Division. Barltrop Rose Bowl. Open to individual members of nursing divisions who have not competed in a district event before. Part I: Two practical tests in roller bandaging. Part II: Two oral questions in home nursing First, equal, Miss J. Dutton (Wellington Nursing Division) and Miss I. Ashford (Lower Hutt Nursing Division); third, equal, Miss P. Leydon and Miss V. Bush (Wellington South Nursing Division). Robieson Trophy. Open to individual members of nursing divisions who have not won a district competition previously. Render first aid on serious injury and answer two questions on first aid.—First, Mrs. Willmot (Nelson Nursing Divisions); second, Mrs. 5° di ey l .,r- (Nf lson Nursing Division); third, Miss V. Bush (Wellington South Nursing Division). The trophies were presented to the winners at a social held in the Oddfellows' Hall on Saturday evening, when the following awards were also presented by Colonel J. J. Esson Lieutenant-Commander of the Commandery in New Zealand-— Bar to Service Medal.—Mrs. M. L. Russell, Lady Superintendent, Y.W.C A Division.
