UNIVERSITY AND PETONE
Neither side gained a victory as the result of the one day's play in the match between Fetone and University on the Petone Recreation Ground. The wicket was good and the weather fine. petpne, who were without the services of the Nicholls brothers and Hudson, wo, n the toss and put University in to bat. The Petone bowling was quite good, but was rot effective, in that the only two Unversity batsmen who lost their wickets vere run out. Wiren after a slow start compiled 78 in quite an attractive manner, and McMillan contributed a sold 52 not out. Blandfords 30 was made in good time. The Petone batsmen,did not do well, and when stumps were drawn at 6.15 p m because of the failing light, the side had seven wickets down for 86 runs If University had declared'half an hour earlier they would possibly have won. Blandford and Wiren were University's opening pair to the bowling of Smith and Holland. Blandford played attractive cricket, making some good shots. He looked like staying, but was run out. Included in his 30 were five Is. Wiren at this time had made only one. McMillan .was next. Riddolls had taken over from Holland, ahd a little later Dunn relieved Smith. The score mounted steadily, but not rapidly, and Johns and Judd then took over the attack.
