DetecUve-Sergeant P. Doyle, who has been transferred from Dunedin to Wellington, has now taken up his duties at the Central Police Station. He is attached to the Commissioner's staff. Detective-Sergeant T. V Hall has received notice of his transfer to Dunedin, but will not leave Wellington until his present duties.in the Hastings district are completed.
Mr. W. O. Williams, of Hawera, has been elected president of the Automobile Association (South TaranaKi). Mr. J. H. Edmundson has been re-elected president of the Hawke's Bay Association.
Mr. Malcolm Leadbetter, mLa., who has been appointed headmaster of the Waunate High' School, has been first 'assistant master at St. Andrew's College, Christchurch, for the past seven years and previously held a,position at Wellington College. Although he was engaged in full-time teaching during the whole of liis training college course, Mr. Leadbetter was first in his class in all the arts subjects, except one, and secured first place'for NewZealand in the degree nominations jn pure mathematics and physics. In 1925 he graduated M.A. with"-honours in mathematics, arid in 1926 he was nominated by the Victoria University for a New Zealand Rhodes Scholarship. Mr. Leadbetter has' had a notable career as a champion sprinter and was nominated* for the Olympic Games in 1928, but as the funds available were insufficient he' had' to be omitted. He has taken an active part m coaching various teams at St. AndfT'S£°lleie' and is a past President of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association.
