ONE-DAY CRICKET
TOMOKttOW'S MATCHES
NO "FREAK" DECLARATIONS
The representations made to cricket clubs under the jurisdiction of the Wellington Cricket Association to fall in with the wish of the association's management committee by refraining from making "freak declarations" in tomorrow's matches have had a highly satisfactory result. The idea of the committee was that clubs should agree to play in accordance with the county cricket rule governing matches in which play .is confined to the last day set down for a match. All the replies from clubs indicate that "freak declarations" will not ,i.c made in tomorrow's •matches. . .". '
The county cricket rule, which by arrangement can now be applied, provides that no sid= shall declare its> first innings, closed until it has batted for at least sixty minutes. ; One of the main matches tomorrow will /ff. that between Midland and Wellin^on, to be played at the Basin Reserve.. , Gf special interest will be the .appearances ior Midland and Wellington, respectively of J. L.. Keating (the ex-Victorian representative now fulfilling; a coaching: engagement to .the Wellington Cricket Association) and T. C. Lowry (noted New Zealand captain). In view of the fact that play is confined to the one; afternoon, there should be some very keen and entertaining cricket.
